Relationships, Sex & Health Education Curriculum (RSHE)
At our school, we are committed to delivering a comprehensive Relationship, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) programme that aligns with the 2025 national guidance. Our approach is based on a thematic spiral model, which ensures that content is revisited and built upon each term, allowing for age-appropriate understanding and delivery. This methodology is essential in fostering a deeper comprehension of the subject matter as students progress through their educational journey.
To guide our programme development, we utilise the expertise of the PSHE Association, which provides a robust framework for effective teaching. Additionally, we partner with Cre8tive Resources to support the content and delivery of our RHSE lessons, ensuring that they are engaging, relevant, and informative.
A well-planned and sequenced curriculum is vital for the success of our RHSE programme. It guarantees that all students have equitable access to lessons that enhance their understanding of the world around them. Each week, students participate in a 40-minute Personal Development (PD) lesson, where RHSE content is integrated. This time is crucial for the holistic development of students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate personal relationships and health-related issues.
The impact of RHSE lessons on student learning, progress, and achievement cannot be overstated. Recent feedback indicates that 93% of students agree or strongly agree that the material taught is well-suited to their age. Furthermore, 78% of students report that the content covered in PD lessons assists them in making informed choices in their everyday lives. This positive response underscores the importance of RHSE in shaping well-rounded individuals who are prepared to engage with their communities responsibly.
Right to withdraw- If any parent/carer would like to withdraw their student from Sex Education lessons, please follow the guidance in the policy.
