School Overview

At Batchwood School we believe and invest in the individual.  We are committed to ‘make every day count’ for our students, their families, our staff and all professionals working in partnership with us.  We understand, and implement, creative approaches to combat any barriers to learning that our students may struggle with.  It is our aim to give them the tools to overcome these barriers, to recognise any ‘triggers’ that may rest within them so that negative reactions reduce and positive and adult behaviours embed and remain.

We believe there is no barrier too great, no issue too large, no behaviour too complex.  Our responsibilities and our passion to educate and teach drive us to explore many different avenues to enable our students to access the education that will so vitally shape their future.  We buy into traded services for careers, counselling, adolescent mental health services and life skills.  We are also fortunate to have volunteer mentors coming to our school to take 1:1 sessions with some of our students.

Alongside our core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science we offer other extensive curriculum programs.  These include; Outdoor Learning, Food technology, Design Technology, Art, PE, Music and Hair and Beauty.  In this current academic year we have also begun a school mountain program across our year groups which, so far, has championed 3 very successful trips to Snowdonia.  Our students are able to access GCSEs and we are also an accredited exam centre with NCFE, Edexcel, Pearson, Asdan and VTCT.  We also partner with many Alternative Provision centres offering practical learning opportunities and qualifications in skills including plastering, brick laying, motor mechanics, catering, animal care and construction multi-trades.

We are a proud community of staff and students.
