Batchwood School: Passion Belief Courage

About the School

We are welcoming secondary school where every student is known, understood and valued as an individual. Our mixed SEMH setting enables us to build strong relationships and provide the personalised support our students need to succeed.

At Batchwood, we believe every young person can achieve and develop the skills they need for a successful and fulfilling future. We provide a broad and ambitious curriculum alongside opportunities for enrichment, personal development and social learning. Our aim is to help students build confidence, resilience and independence while achieving their academic potential.

As a specialist SEMH provision, relationships and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. Staff work closely with students to set ambitious yet achievable goals, supporting them to recognise their strengths and make positive progress both academically and personally.

Our school community is committed to continuous improvement. Staff, students, governors and families work together to ensure that every young person is supported to thrive. Clear systems are in place to monitor progress, celebrate success and support students in developing positive behaviours for learning.

We offer a range of enrichment and extended learning opportunities, allowing students to take part in activities that support their interests, wellbeing and personal development.

All staff are trained in Therapeutic Thinking, Hertfordshire’s county-approved approach to behaviour and relationships. This approach focuses on understanding behaviour as communication, building positive relationships, and supporting students through de-escalation and restorative strategies.
